With 25 years of coaching experience across USA Swimming, high school programs, YMCA teams, U.S. Masters, and summer leagues, Coach Mark brings a deep passion for developing swimmers of all levels. Now entering a 9th season with the Settlers Landing Sharks, Mark is dedicated to fostering a team-first environment where every swimmer feels valued and supported.
Outside of the pool, Coach Mark is a Physical Education teacher at Elizabeth Redd Elementary School in Richmond, where inspiring confidence and a love of movement is part of everyday life. That same philosophy carries over to the pool deck, where building self-belief is just as important as refining technique.
A proud swim parent as well, Mark has three children—Jackson, Brady, and Camden—who compete for the Settlers Landing Sharks, making the team truly feel like family. With an emphasis on spirit, enthusiasm, and positive energy, Coach believes these qualities are the foundation of the team’s success and growth, both in and out of the water.
11th year as a swimmer
1st year as a coach
My favorite memories included our team trips to Brusters, and the few nights we have had to wait in the parking lot due to lightning! I enjoy Brusters every year since it is a fun get together with the whole team were can play and enjoy a sweet treat! I also have enjoyed waiting in the parking lot due to weather because usually we would play games or just mess around with friends which I really enjoyed.
